BBC

Early in 2014 we recieved an unexpected  phone call from BBC TV. They were asking Inter Theatre Stoke Choir to be part of the Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect film Marvellous,  a 90 min television programme commissioned for BBC2. We of course said ‘yes’

Written by Peter Bowker with Julian Farino directing, it is the true story of Neil Baldwin, an unusual man who lives his very own dream and who is still alive and with us today. As a boy, he walked into Keele University – and never left. And he counts bishops, sportsmen and politicians among his friends. So just who is Neil Baldwin?

Neil and Herbie

Filming took place on May24th at Keele University. At the heart of the project is the Neil Baldwin Choir and ukulele band, which included members from our choir! They act as a narrative and guide through the movie.

They smashed it. BIG TIME. Seriously, they made the choir sing with JOY – Katie Swinden, Producer

Inter Theatre on the red carpet

On September 10th, we joined the rest of the cast and crew for the VIP attended Stoke preview of the film at the Stoke Film Theatre. Guests included Lou Macari, Toby Jones and his dad Freddie and of course Neil. During the day we were also visited by a TV film crew from Midlands Today who interviewed us for their evening show.

Marvellous was first shown on BBC2 on 25th September 2014. It was repeated at Xmas and became a top favourite on iPlayer. In 2015 it received two BAFTAs as well as many other awards.
